Partisipasi Masyarakat Internasional pada Pelestarian Warisan Budaya Dunia di Indonesia
Borobudur temple is cultural inhetitance, reflecting the excellence of values, tecnological system and building. Borobudur was built in the 8th century (800 AD) by King Syamaratungga of Cailendra dinasty. Borobudur temple is a monement of worship for the Buddhist, especially for Mahayana group. After about 8 year burried under the ground, at last in 1814 it was found by Sir Thomas Stanford Raffles.
The existance of Borobudur is very susceptible to damages. In the early 19th century, there was an idea to restore it to save and preserve the historical and very valuable monument. The restoration was done in 1973-1983 under the coordination of the government of Indonesia and UNESCO. During the restoration, many international societies, both from countries (28 countries) and private/institution (8 institutions) participated to give aid in the form of fund or personnels. The restoration of 1973-1983 consisted of 3 kinds of work : Disassemble and assemble the stone, Build the foundation with concrete, Clean and preserve the stone. Parts of the temple which was restored was the over all Rupadhatu, where as in the Kamadhatu and Arupadhatu would be maintained, for they were still stable and strong. On the upper part (Arupadhatu), circle terraces with their stupas lie.
After the restoration, the people of Indonesia hope that Borobudur temple is not only to be cared but also to be preserved due to its glorious cultural values.
